Van Gogh Starry Night Bridal Shower Theme @ohbotherblog

A few weekends ago, we held a bridal shower for my cousin, Katlyn. Kat is an art teacher and is going to have an amazingly Pinterest-perfect wedding so we knew we had to bring our A-Game with the shower.

We decided to go with a theme of Van Gogh’s “Starry Night” as a nod to Kat’s artistic side. As you can see, we went blue and yellow crazy.

The shower was held at the bride’s mom’s house, in her sunroom.

We had these amazing Starry Night cupcakes, from Ladybug Baking Company. Look at that icing work!

I love having guests fill out envelopes with their addresses for thank you cards at showers—makes things so much easier on the honoree!

We had a fun blue and yellow candy table. I’m a bit ashamed to admit that those are all of my apothecary jars, haha.

Blue and yellow everywhere.

Confession: I hate games. Especially shower games, other than gift BINGO. I like BINGO because it gives guests something to do during the looooong gift-opening sessions.

Confession: I also hate shower favors. Most people leave them behind. It’s usually an unnecessary added expense.

So to address the favor issue, and the fact that BINGO usually requires a lot of prizes for winners, we instead went with a raffle.

Each bridesmaid created a theme basket—entertaining, spa, pasta, coffee, beach, etc. Every attendee received two raffle tickets at the start of the shower. Whenever someone won BINGO, they received additional tickets.

We put a bag by each prize basket so attendees could put their ticket in to try to win. At the end of the shower, we raffled off the baskets.

Little man had to come because we’re pretty much a package deal these days.

The beautiful bride (notice the painting in the background, done by one of the bridesmaids at a Painting With a Twist party!)

We all even tried to dress to the theme.

Also, I made that crazy blue punch you see in the very first photo up there. Basically I just threw a bunch of blue stuff into a punch bowl, but here’s the recipe:

  • 1 bottle Bacardi Hurricane mix (it’s blue!)
  • 1/4 bottle Blue Curaçao
  • 1.5 gallons Hawaiian Punch Berry Blue Typhoon
    • Note: when I make punch, I usually freeze one bottle of the juice to use as ice (regular water ice cubes will dilute the punch!) You can also make ice cubes out of the juice, which is probably smarter because otherwise you have to use a box cutter to cut open the plastic bottle. Yeah, I should probably just do that next time.
  • Pineapple juice to taste, but not so much that it will affect the blue color
  • Pineapple slices to float

It was damn good. And strong.

Such a fun shower!
