happy 10 months, gb

24.01.15

It wouldn’t be a Month-iversary post if it wasn’t a few days late…

happy 10 months, gb @ohbotherblog

Sorry, GB.

Weight: 19 pounds, wearing size 3 diapers.

Likes: eating! open mouth kissing, army crawling, dancing to “Uptown Funk,” trying to stand up, rolling, being harassed by his sister, gnawing on Sally’s fur, stealing people’s food, bouncing in his bouncer, lights and noises, being held, his mama.

Dislikes: When I don’t feed him fast enough, when his sister takes toys from him.

Eats: Everything and a lot of it. I basically have been eating a lot of mushier foods and just sharing my dinner with him. So far there hasn’t been anything he’s turned down.

Sleeps: Still a great sleeper (thank god).

Teeth: Five!

Accomplishments: Army crawling! Sitting up by himself, waving, high fives, mimicking, screeching.

This kid is on the move!

Happy 10 months, Big Guy!

happy 10 months, gb @ohbotherblog

So yeah, 10 months. Only two months to the big First Birthday, which means it’s time to start planning a party.

Ugh.

happy 9 months, gb

28.12.14

So GB turned 9 months on December 23. I could barely manage to take this photo a full five days later–I have no idea how parents handle December/early January birthdays.

happy 9 months, gb @ohbotherblog
GB totally judges me.

Weight: 17.8-pounds, wearing size 3 diapers.

Likes: eating! trying to stand up, rolling, being harassed by his sister, gnawing on Sally’s fur, stealing people’s food, bouncing in his bouncer, lights and noises, being held, his mama.

Dislikes: He still loves being held and doesn’t love not being the center of attention, though he is playing a bit more independently with his toys (and by “playing,” I mean putting stuff in his mouth).

Eats: The kid loves to eat. We’ve started on mushy table foods, though watching him figure out his gag reflex is a bit nerve-wracking. He seems very glad to have discovered macaroni & cheese.

Sleeps: Still a great sleeper (thank god).

Accomplishments: Sitting up by himself, waving, high fives. He’s still not crawling–he prefers to roll to his desired destination. He’s really smiley and talkative–even a bit of a screecher.

Teeth: Four! All four of his front teeth came in within a week of each other. Surprisingly, he didn’t seem to be pained by this at all (unlike his sister, who let the whole world know when she was cutting a tooth).

happy 9 months, gb @ohbotherblog

I’m loving his crazy mad scientist hair. Isn’t his #babyfees onesie cute? It was a gift from my friend Kristen at by k.ev (it was also the only white shirt I currently have for him).

Happy 9 months, GB!

happy 8 months, GB

23.11.14

happy 8 months GB @ohbotherblog

Look at me: I’m actually posting on the date! GB is 8 months today. (and yes, that is a bite mark in his tie sticker. All will be revealed).

Weight: An 16.9-pound turkey, wearing size 3 diapers.

Likes: being held, eating, being “hugged” by his sister, flying in the air, being tickled, belly raspberries, grabbing his feet, “talking,” grabbing at everything, trying to steal people’s food, “petting” Sally/grabbing at her fur, jumping in his bouncer

Dislikes: GB has been going through another I-want-to-be-held-all-the-time phase. He’s recently shown the first signs of being “strange” (what they say around here when a baby cries when someone other than his mom holds him). He’s often hangry. I believe he has some teeth pushing through.

Eats: Recently he’s been doubling-down on the milk and not wanting to eat solids as much. I can’t imaging why because spinach/pea/pear sounds delicious to me.

Sleeps: Like a boss. Rarely any issues in the sleeping department.

Accomplishments: Sitting up by himself… until he falls forward into a full-on Paschimottanasana position (Google it). He’s starting to look like he wants to crawl. I swear he can mimic my hands drumming on the table (I’m talking matching rhythm and beats and using both hands). He waves hello and goodbye! I think he miiiiight be signing “milk.”

Pretty much he’s a genius.

happy 8 months GB @ohbotherblog

Also, he’s super curious and wants to put his hands on everything.

happy 8 months GB @ohbotherblog

And then put that everything in his mouth.

happy 8 months GB @ohbotherblog

Also, I love his crazy hair so much.

happy 8 months GB @ohbotherblog

Happy 8 months, buddy.

happy 7 months, GB

24.10.14

happy 7 months GB @ohbotherblog

So I’m a little late, but on October 23, GB hit the 7 month mark.

Weight: My scale is broken and says I weigh 20 pounds less than I do (I refuse to fix it, of course), so I really don’t know. I’m guessing he’s close to 17 pounds right now. Just about into size 3 diapers.

Likes: being held, eating, being “hugged” by his sister, flying in the air, being tickled, trying to sit up, belly raspberries, grabbing his feet, “talking,” grabbing at everything, trying to steal people’s food

Dislikes: Being hangry (hey, I feel you, kid). That’s really about it. He is showing some signs of teething but generally doesn’t seem to be too upset about it yet.

Eats: This guy eats like a champ. We just moved up to level 2 foods–combination stuff–and there’s nothing he really doesn’t like. He tries to steal the spoon and feed himself and often beats on his high chair tray in approval.

Sleeps: Like a boss. 8:30 or 9pm to about 7:30am, or whenever his sister runs in his room and wakes him up (argh!)

Accomplishments: He’s allllllmost sitting up unassisted. He talks a lot and has kind of said, “Dada” (grrr!). Smiling (a lot!), chuckling, rolling over like crazy, grabbing toys, kicking like a soccer player, putting his Nuk in his mouth.

He’s my sweetheart.

happy 6 months, gb

IMG_4100.JPG

It’s so hard for me to believe, but this guy is six months old today.

Weight: My scale is broken and says I weigh 20 pounds less than I do (I refuse to fix it, of course), so I really don’t know. At his pediatrician appointment last week they said 15.9 lbs.

Likes: being held, milk, his sister, sitting outside, watching the fan, when mommy makes crazy faces and voices, the baby gym, being “hugged” by his sister, flying in the air, being tickled, trying to sit up, belly raspberries, grabbing his feet, “talking.”

Dislikes: He is still super pleasant. We recently got over a bout of Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease and neither the doctor or I could tell because he was still so content. He did want to be held a lot last week when he was sick. He doesn’t like getting hot in his car seat.

Eats: We just started solid foods this week. So far, he’s loving his rice cereal, avocados and apples.

Sleeps: Through the night. In his crib. Thank the Lord.

Accomplishments: Smiling (a lot!), chuckling, rolling over like crazy, chewing on his hands, grabbing toys, kicking like a soccer player, holding his head up, putting his Nuk in his mouth. He’s getting better at sitting up with help. He coos and “talks” a lot.

Seriously, this kid is awesome.

IMG_4099.JPG

But, so as not to be all braggy like “that mom,” here’s a true look at the behind-the-scenes of our little shoot today.

Now that he’s discovered his feet, it’s a little tougher to keep him still or to get him to smile for a photo.

IMG_4096.JPG

IMG_4097.JPG

IMG_4101.JPG

He’s a mover.

IMG_4094.JPG

He’s really curious and is especially entertained by his sister, so I enlisted her help to try to get a smile.

IMG_4093.JPG

It didn’t really work.

(Notice the blur in the lower right corner.)

But still, no complaints with this guy. Lovin’ every day with him.

craycation 2014 recap

09.09.14

Okay, so I know I’m about two weeks behind on this but here it is: Craycation 2014 Recap.

As you may remember, Holdy was pretty psyched about going to the ocean. Specifically, she wanted to “get her toes wet, get her butt wet and eat crabs.”

So we didn’t waste any time fulfilling those wishes.

Beach trip with baby and toddler @ohbotherblog

Now, Holdy wasn’t so sure about the whole crab business when it actually came down to it.

Beach trip with baby and toddler @ohbotherblog

Beach trip with baby and toddler @ohbotherblog

But man, does this kid love the beach.

Beach trip with baby and toddler @ohbotherblog

Beach trip with baby and toddler @ohbotherblog

Like, really loves the beach.

Like, even posed-nicely-to-get-her-Scopes-photos-taken loves the beach.

Holdy's Beach photoshoot @ohbotherblog

I was so shocked at how well and intently she listened to the photographer. I invited him to come live with us. (He was also 22 and adorable but that’s beside the point).

GB was also a real trooper on the beach. (Check out Holdy in the background.)

Beach trip with baby and toddler @ohbotherblog

He would hang out in his little tent, and was pretty happy unless he got too hot or his sister kicked sand in his face. Which both happened.

Beach trip with baby and toddler @ohbotherblog

So GB and I would chill at the pool instead with this sweet setup.

Beach trip with baby and toddler @ohbotherblog

And we were both lovin it.

Beach trip with baby and toddler @ohbotherblog

One of my favorite memories of going to the beach when I was younger was playing with glowsticks on the beach when the sun went down. So we gave that a shot.

Beach trip with baby and toddler @ohbotherblog

One night, we took a trip over to the amusement park for Holden’s first taste of some non-quarter-at-Target rides.

She loved them.

Beach trip with baby and toddler @ohbotherblog

Beach trip with baby and toddler @ohbotherblog

Mostly.

Beach trip with baby and toddler @ohbotherblog

I can watch this video of her on her first roller coaster ride over and over.

I even got a brief night out while my Dad stayed with the kids one night.

Beach trip with baby and toddler @ohbotherblog

And I needed that night out, because the trip was certainly not without its stresses.

Like, tantrums.

Beach trip with baby and toddler @ohbotherblog

And more tantrums.

Beach trip with baby and toddler @ohbotherblog

And then there was the night that my parents went out to dinner on their own.

“Go,” I said.

“I’ll be fine,” I said.

So I took the kids to the boardwalk. And we started out like this:

And within 10 minutes, progressed to this:

I had a very hard time obeying this:

So then I went back to the room and did this:

Don’t get me wrong: there were certainly good times. Like:

and:

But in all seriousness: while traveling with small children absolutely sucks and should never, ever be called a “vacation,” I’m really glad to have created those memories and we definitely were able to have some fun. Holdy especially had a wonderful time and it was great to watch her experience so many things for the first time.

Though I’m happy to not do it again anytime soon.

happy 5 months, GB

I’ll update you on the result of our craycation shortly, but first… Happy 5 Months, GB!

Dislikes: This kid is pretty freaking pleasant. There’s not much that upsets him… except being hot (so being at the beach for craycation was just fantastic).

Eats: Every 3-4 hours. Mommy’s milk or a 6oz bottle of breastmilk & formula combined.

Sleeps: Through the night. In his crib. Thank the Lord.

Accomplishments: Smiling (a lot!), chuckling, rolling over like crazy, chewing on his hands, grabbing, kicking like a soccer player, holding his head up, putting his Nuk in his mouth

I love you, Buddy! Thanks for being so easygoing. Please stay that way.

Here’s a behind-the-scenes shot of today’s shoot:

Behind the scenes baby photo shoot @ohbotherblog

Just kidding. That lasted about seven seconds and then she threw the camera on the ground and started screaming that she didn’t have her own tie sticker.

Happy 4 month birthday, GB @ohbotherblog

Happy 4 months, Big Guy. You are the sweetest baby; so content and pleasant 95% of the time. I’m pretty sure you think your name is “Handsome” (maybe it should be).

Eats: Every 3-4 hours. Mommy’s milk or a 6oz bottle of breastmilk & formula combined.

Sleeps: This big guy now sleeps in the crib in the nursery and… THROUGH THE NIGHT! He generally sleeps from about 9p to 6a with very few interruptions.

Accomplishments: Smiling (a lot!), chuckling, rolling over, chewing on his hands, grabbing the rings in his baby gym, kicking like a soccer player, holding his head up

Oh, and look who had to get in the post:

(ps: I really boned up Holden’s monthly photos by not showing her sitting in a chair or something to give perspective. I’m trying a bit harder this time around. The adorable month tie stickers are from Bump2Baby Stickers on Etsy.)

crying over frozen milk

21.07.14

Welp, after 4 short months, this day has come: my freezer milk is finally gone.

the last of the freezer milk @ohbotherblog

I have never been a fan of pumping. I find it to be a necessary evil, but I’ve always really really hated assembling all of the parts and pieces, putting on that hands-free bra and hooking myself up like a cow. Since going back to work part-time, I’ve only ever been able to squeeze in one pumping session a day–with GB was drinking two bottles while I was gone–so I was always playing catch-up and not-so-slowly making my way through my freezer stores.

So now here we are. The freezer milk is gone and it’s time to begin supplementing with formula.

With Holden, I pumped twice a day at work until she was 7 months and then gave up and resorted to the freezer. The day I made the decision to stop pumping altogether was straight-up joyous. I think the freezer milk lasted us a few months and I began supplementing with formula around her 10-month mark. I breastfed when I was in her presence and formula-fed when I wasn’t until she was 13 months old and totally over my nips.

The plan with GB will be similar: Breast feed when I’m around. Pump at work (ugh). Mix breast milk and formula when I have milk; and just use formula when I don’t.

I certainly don’t judge anyone who formula feeds their kids but I do feel a little bummed that I’m tapped out so early. The plan is to keep up with the pumping until I just can’t stand it anymore, but good lord do I hate it. Glad to have some reliable back up in trusty ol’ Enfamil.

happy three month birthday, GB

23.06.14

At 2:31 pm today, Mr. Gatsby (GB) will be three months old. Here’s a snapshot of the little man:

Gatsby is three months old @ohbotherblog

Weight: 12 lbs., 6 oz. The pediatrician called him a “string bean” at last week’s appointment. Pretty sure I was never ever considered a string bean.

Likes: being held, milk, his sister, sitting outside, watching the fan, watching mommy, when mommy makes crazy faces and voices, the baby gym

Dislikes: not being held, tummy time, riding in the car without a Nuk, not being paid attention to

Eats: Every 3-4 hours

Sleeps: Alert the media: we’ve had a few nights of 8 hours of sleep! (11a-6p). Usually it ranges between 6-8 lately. I’ll take it!

Accomplishments: Smiling (a lot!), chuckling, rolled over from front to back several times, chewing on his hands, grabbing the rings in his baby gym, kicking like a soccer player.

Places Visited: The Maryland Zoo for Sissy’s birthday, The Farm, Redeux Grand Opening

Gatsby is three months old @ohbotherblog

Also, this month’s pics may look adorable, but I assure you, nothing in my life goes that smoothly. Here are some outtakes before “the talent” was given some milk from craft services.
