chatbooks

14.01.17

I was browsing Facebook today, when I came across a video that resonated with me:

I love photo books but have absolutely no time to make them. I still haven’t finished GB’s baby book on Shutterfly and he’ll be three in March. So I decided to give Chatbooks a try.

Chatbooks links with your Instagram, Facebook or iPhone favorites to automatically populate a photo book. When you get to 60 photos, your book is made.

Chatbooks @ohbotherblog

You can go in and exclude any photos you don’t want to have printed. I post a lot of food photos, apparently, and obviously don’t need a printed book of all the food I’ve eaten, thank you.

You can also edit your cover photos, choose not to include your Instagram captions, etc.

Chatbooks @ohbotherblog

And then… you order your book! The standard book comes with a soft cover and costs $8. You can upgrade to a hard cover for $5.

Chatbooks works on a subscription system as you fill your books: you can indicate if you want books immediately sent out once filled, 1 a month, 5 a month or 10 a month.

Chatbooks @ohbotherblog

I spent about an hour this morning setting up my account and excluding all of my Instagram photos from the past 5 and a half years (that’s a lot of food photos). Because I had about 15 books’ worth of photos, I signed up for the “5 a month” subscription to get myself caught up. If’/when you want to change your subscription level, you can do that at any time.

You can also order individual prints and seasonal books!

Chatbooks @ohbotherblog

We all know we post our “best” photos on social media, so looking back, these seemed to be a pretty fair representation of our life for the past five years.

If you’re a hot mess like me, I have a feeling Chatbooks will work for you. Give it a shot!

*Disclosure: these links to Chatbooks are “Friends” links. You’ll get your first book free and if I get five friends to sign up, I’ll get a free 5-year subscription to Chatbooks!

Presenting our 2015 Christmas Card:
The oh bother Christmas Card 2015 @ohbotherblog

If you’ll recall, I went with a similar card theme last year. It’s going to be my thing:

birthday clock photo, year 3

15.06.15

In keeping with my (stolen) tradition, I snapped Holdy’s birthday clock photo at 7:23pm on her birthday.

Take a photo of your child every year at their birth time on their birthday! @ohbotherblog

While it’s probably the most stressful minute of my year to try to capture that shot, I’m going to try to do it every birthday. (And yes, I realize that the date format is in European style in that shot. Oh well.)

Here are previous years’ clock photos:

Her first birthday clock photo didn’t go so hot.

Birthday tradition: clock photo showing birth time @ohbotherblog Birthday Tradition: First Clock Photo at Birth Time @ohbotherblog

Getting GB’s clock photo will prove a bit more difficult, as he was born at 2:31pm (despite his birth certificate saying 2:41pm–trust me, I remember. Oh, I remember.)

Sorry, I’m going to have to embarrass you at school every year, Buddy! All in the name of tradition.

It wouldn’t be a Month-iversary post if it wasn’t a few days late…

happy 10 months, gb @ohbotherblog

Sorry, GB.

Weight: 19 pounds, wearing size 3 diapers.

Likes: eating! open mouth kissing, army crawling, dancing to “Uptown Funk,” trying to stand up, rolling, being harassed by his sister, gnawing on Sally’s fur, stealing people’s food, bouncing in his bouncer, lights and noises, being held, his mama.

Dislikes: When I don’t feed him fast enough, when his sister takes toys from him.

Eats: Everything and a lot of it. I basically have been eating a lot of mushier foods and just sharing my dinner with him. So far there hasn’t been anything he’s turned down.

Sleeps: Still a great sleeper (thank god).

Teeth: Five!

Accomplishments: Army crawling! Sitting up by himself, waving, high fives, mimicking, screeching.

This kid is on the move!

Happy 10 months, Big Guy!

So yeah, 10 months. Only two months to the big First Birthday, which means it’s time to start planning a party.

Ugh.

ohmygod I have to send christmas cards

06.12.14

So… I just realized that it’s getting to be mid-December soon and I haven’t thought about Christmas cards until this very moment.

In our Pinterest-loving, Facebook-best-parent-competition society, non-photo Christmas cards won’t do. And iPhone photos converted into cards printed out at Walgreens won’t do. So not only do I have to design, order, address and stamp my cards, I need to schedule a photo session (and hope both kids cooperate at the same time for at least 30 seconds).

Last year, I used Minted for our Christmas card:

Calmish and Bright Christmas Card @ohbotherblog

So I was really psyched when Minted reached out to me to ask me to try out their Holiday Cards this year for oh, bother. Minted is a really cool community of independent designers whose work you can choose from to create your own custom stationery. I’m pretty picky when it comes to my invitations/cards/announcements, so Minted is my jam. I mean:

Minted Holiday Cards @ohbotherblog

Gorgeous, right? That “Wreck the Halls” one would be perfect for Holden.

But… I’m thinking the odds are not good that my Christmas cards will happen in time for the 25th, so I’m considering doing a New Year’s card this year. That buys me an extra week or two, right? The entire month of January?

The New Year’s design selection is just as fantastic:

Minted New Year's Cards @ohbotherblog

Considering that we’ve had a pretty eventful year, I thought this Family Year in Review design was adorable:

But then I remembered that I’m lazy and the thought of having to think about and write out all those milestones gave me a panic attack, so I found this super awesome card instead:

Minted Conversation Bubble Holiday Card @ohbotherblog

Same idea, less writing. It’s pithy and fun.

Now I just have to capture that perfect photo.

(Also, don’t expect your card in the mail, lol. I pretty much only send them to older family members and people who make me feel guilty by sending me a card first. Stamps are expensive, ya’ll!)

happy 8 months, GB

happy 8 months GB @ohbotherblog

Look at me: I’m actually posting on the date! GB is 8 months today. (and yes, that is a bite mark in his tie sticker. All will be revealed).

Weight: An 16.9-pound turkey, wearing size 3 diapers.

Likes: being held, eating, being “hugged” by his sister, flying in the air, being tickled, belly raspberries, grabbing his feet, “talking,” grabbing at everything, trying to steal people’s food, “petting” Sally/grabbing at her fur, jumping in his bouncer

Dislikes: GB has been going through another I-want-to-be-held-all-the-time phase. He’s recently shown the first signs of being “strange” (what they say around here when a baby cries when someone other than his mom holds him). He’s often hangry. I believe he has some teeth pushing through.

Eats: Recently he’s been doubling-down on the milk and not wanting to eat solids as much. I can’t imaging why because spinach/pea/pear sounds delicious to me.

Sleeps: Like a boss. Rarely any issues in the sleeping department.

Accomplishments: Sitting up by himself… until he falls forward into a full-on Paschimottanasana position (Google it). He’s starting to look like he wants to crawl. I swear he can mimic my hands drumming on the table (I’m talking matching rhythm and beats and using both hands). He waves hello and goodbye! I think he miiiiight be signing “milk.”

Pretty much he’s a genius.

happy 8 months GB @ohbotherblog

Also, he’s super curious and wants to put his hands on everything.

happy 8 months GB @ohbotherblog

And then put that everything in his mouth.

happy 8 months GB @ohbotherblog

Also, I love his crazy hair so much.

happy 8 months GB @ohbotherblog

Happy 8 months, buddy.

happy 7 months, GB

24.10.14

happy 7 months GB @ohbotherblog

So I’m a little late, but on October 23, GB hit the 7 month mark.

Weight: My scale is broken and says I weigh 20 pounds less than I do (I refuse to fix it, of course), so I really don’t know. I’m guessing he’s close to 17 pounds right now. Just about into size 3 diapers.

Likes: being held, eating, being “hugged” by his sister, flying in the air, being tickled, trying to sit up, belly raspberries, grabbing his feet, “talking,” grabbing at everything, trying to steal people’s food

Dislikes: Being hangry (hey, I feel you, kid). That’s really about it. He is showing some signs of teething but generally doesn’t seem to be too upset about it yet.

Eats: This guy eats like a champ. We just moved up to level 2 foods–combination stuff–and there’s nothing he really doesn’t like. He tries to steal the spoon and feed himself and often beats on his high chair tray in approval.

Sleeps: Like a boss. 8:30 or 9pm to about 7:30am, or whenever his sister runs in his room and wakes him up (argh!)

Accomplishments: He’s allllllmost sitting up unassisted. He talks a lot and has kind of said, “Dada” (grrr!). Smiling (a lot!), chuckling, rolling over like crazy, grabbing toys, kicking like a soccer player, putting his Nuk in his mouth.

He’s my sweetheart.

happy 7 months gb @ohbotherblog

happy 6 months, gb

23.09.14

IMG_4100.JPG

It’s so hard for me to believe, but this guy is six months old today.

Weight: My scale is broken and says I weigh 20 pounds less than I do (I refuse to fix it, of course), so I really don’t know. At his pediatrician appointment last week they said 15.9 lbs.

Likes: being held, milk, his sister, sitting outside, watching the fan, when mommy makes crazy faces and voices, the baby gym, being “hugged” by his sister, flying in the air, being tickled, trying to sit up, belly raspberries, grabbing his feet, “talking.”

Dislikes: He is still super pleasant. We recently got over a bout of Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease and neither the doctor or I could tell because he was still so content. He did want to be held a lot last week when he was sick. He doesn’t like getting hot in his car seat.

Eats: We just started solid foods this week. So far, he’s loving his rice cereal, avocados and apples.

Sleeps: Through the night. In his crib. Thank the Lord.

Accomplishments: Smiling (a lot!), chuckling, rolling over like crazy, chewing on his hands, grabbing toys, kicking like a soccer player, holding his head up, putting his Nuk in his mouth. He’s getting better at sitting up with help. He coos and “talks” a lot.

Seriously, this kid is awesome.

IMG_4099.JPG

But, so as not to be all braggy like “that mom,” here’s a true look at the behind-the-scenes of our little shoot today.

Now that he’s discovered his feet, it’s a little tougher to keep him still or to get him to smile for a photo.

IMG_4096.JPG

IMG_4097.JPG

IMG_4101.JPG

He’s a mover.

IMG_4094.JPG

He’s really curious and is especially entertained by his sister, so I enlisted her help to try to get a smile.

IMG_4093.JPG

It didn’t really work.

(Notice the blur in the lower right corner.)

But still, no complaints with this guy. Lovin’ every day with him.

happy 5 months, GB

23.08.14

I’ll update you on the result of our craycation shortly, but first… Happy 5 Months, GB!

happy 5 months, gb @ohbotherblog

Weight: According to my super scientific stand-on-the-scale-with-him-stand-on-the-scale-without-him method, about 15 lbs.

Likes: being held, milk, his sister, sitting outside, watching the fan, when mommy makes crazy faces and voices, the baby gym, being “hugged” by his sister, flying in the air, being tickled, dipping his feet in the pool, trying to sit up, belly raspberries

Dislikes: This kid is pretty freaking pleasant. There’s not much that upsets him… except being hot (so being at the beach for craycation was just fantastic).

Eats: Every 3-4 hours. Mommy’s milk or a 6oz bottle of breastmilk & formula combined.

Sleeps: Through the night. In his crib. Thank the Lord.

Accomplishments: Smiling (a lot!), chuckling, rolling over like crazy, chewing on his hands, grabbing, kicking like a soccer player, holding his head up, putting his Nuk in his mouth

I love you, Buddy! Thanks for being so easygoing. Please stay that way.

Here’s a behind-the-scenes shot of today’s shoot:

Behind the scenes baby photo shoot @ohbotherblog

Just kidding. That lasted about seven seconds and then she threw the camera on the ground and started screaming that she didn’t have her own tie sticker.

happy three month birthday, GB

23.06.14

At 2:31 pm today, Mr. Gatsby (GB) will be three months old. Here’s a snapshot of the little man:

Gatsby is three months old @ohbotherblog

Weight: 12 lbs., 6 oz. The pediatrician called him a “string bean” at last week’s appointment. Pretty sure I was never ever considered a string bean.

Likes: being held, milk, his sister, sitting outside, watching the fan, watching mommy, when mommy makes crazy faces and voices, the baby gym

Dislikes: not being held, tummy time, riding in the car without a Nuk, not being paid attention to

Eats: Every 3-4 hours

Sleeps: Alert the media: we’ve had a few nights of 8 hours of sleep! (11a-6p). Usually it ranges between 6-8 lately. I’ll take it!

Accomplishments: Smiling (a lot!), chuckling, rolled over from front to back several times, chewing on his hands, grabbing the rings in his baby gym, kicking like a soccer player.

Places Visited: The Maryland Zoo for Sissy’s birthday, The Farm, Redeux Grand Opening

Gatsby is three months old @ohbotherblog

Also, this month’s pics may look adorable, but I assure you, nothing in my life goes that smoothly. Here are some outtakes before “the talent” was given some milk from craft services.

Also, go ahead and check out the evidence that I really boned up Holden’s monthly photos by not showing her sitting in a chair or something to give perspective. I’m going to try a bit harder this time around. The adorable month tie stickers are from Bump2Baby Stickers on Etsy.
